National Night Out is a national program that brings awareness to crime in our neighborhoods. The program designates a date every year when the community unites as one and shows support against crimes. The program provides an opportunity for neighborhoods throughout the city to organize special events such as; cook-outs, ice cream socials, block parties and safety fairs. These community events provide neighbors an opportunity to meet each other and show their support against crime. The entire police department participates by visiting neighborhood events with patrol, bicycle and K-9 officers.

National Night Out 2010

Thank You to all Who Participated!

Last night neighborhoods across Valparaiso joined together with the Valparaiso Police to show support against crime in the community. A total of six neighborhoods participated in this year's National Night Out. Neighborhoods participating this year included Essex Park, Pine Creek, Meridian Woods, Oakgrove, Lexington Green and the 1800 block of Napoleon St.

Each location had a great turnout. Police provided K-9 demonstrations and passed out educational material to children. Neighborhoods participating shared ice cream, hot dogs and cotton candy with visiting police officers. The Valparaiso Target Store was a corporate sponsor and provided side walk chalk to all the children participating.

This event was a huge success due to all the participation of community members in each neighborhood.

National Night Out 2009

National Night Out 2009 was another huge success in Valparaiso. Community members from the Essex Park and Oak Grove Neighborhoods celebrate the event with numerous officers from the Valparaiso Police Department. Members of the Bicycle Team and K-9 Unit were a big hit with the kids. A Special thanks to our cooperate sponsors Noodles & Company and Target!
