Valparaiso Police Department Awarded CALEA Accreditation on July 31st 2010
In January of 2004, Chief Brickner and his administrative staff started a review and analysis of the Valparaiso Police Department. The goal was to identify the strengths and areas of the department where updating or improvement would be useful. With various attributes of the department identified, they began making improvements.
The dynamic nature of Policing requires the review and analysis process to be constant. Without introspection, our ability to stay current with modern and acceptable Policing practices is at a disadvantage.
A police department can stay contemporary through accreditation. Accreditation is a proven method of guiding growth and change for organizations. Therefore, in July 2006, Chief Brickner made the decision to pursue accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (CALEA®) was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement's major executive associations:
